Due to fears of a rise in Omicron variant, the 64th annual Grammy Awards ceremony has been rescheduled from the initial date of Jan. 31st to Apr. 3rd and moved from Crypto.com Arena (formerly known as the Staples Center) in Los Angeles to the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The news was announced jointly by the Recording Academy, CBS Television Network, and Country Music Television (CMT). The show will now be broadcast live from Las Vegas and streamed live and on-demand on Paramount+.
CEO of the Recording Academy Harvey Mason Jr. also announced that the Emmy Award-winning host of the Daily-Show Trevor Noah would return as the master of ceremony.
As a result of the change, Country Music Television (CMT) Awards has been postponed to a later date to be announced soon. The Recording Academy will also communicate additional details about the dates and locations of other official GRAMMY Week events, including the GRAMMY Awards Premiere Ceremony, MusicCares’ Person of the year, and the Pre-GRAMMY Gala in due time.
Harvey, via the official page of the academy, also assured the public that they have the full support of the artist community, the leadership of CBS, and the production partners at Fulwell 73.
Among the notable moments of the 63rd Grammy Awards was the achievement of Nigerian artists Wizkid and Burna Boy for winning their first-ever Grammy. Wizkid, for his collaboration with singer Beyonce and her daughter Blue Ivy on the track “Brown Skin Girl” in the category of Best Music Video and Burna Boy’s “Twice as Tall” won the Best Global Music Album.
The superstars have also been nominated for awards at the 64th Grammys; Wizkid’s album “Made In Lagos” is nominated for Best Global Music album. The song of 2021 summer, Essence by Wizkid featuring Tems, is nominated for the Best Global Music Performance. While self-acclaimed African Giant Burna Boy was nominated in the Best Global Music Performance category for his collaboration with Angelique Kidjo.
Also, Fela Kuti’s “Pa Pa Pa” is up for nomination under the Best Music Performance category, and his album “Legacy+” with Made Kuti is up for nomination under “Best Global Music Album.
