Consistency is very key in the music industry and this year we have had a particular artiste give hits back to back while other artiste were still trying to find their feet during the pandemic.
Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, know better by his stage name, Mayorkun was born on the 23rd of March, 1994. He is a singer, songwriter and a pianist. He is signed under Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) and has been active since 2016.
He came into limelight when he released the cover of Davido song “The Money” and he was discovered by the singer on twitter. Mayorkun signed with Davido’s record label Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) in 2016. Prior to being signed by DMW, Mayorkun was in a banking job.
Mayorkun decided to leave his bank job to search for another due to bad pay, when his cover video was spotted by Davido in February 2016. Davido followed him on Twitter and Instagram, after which Davido asked him if he can do more than play the keyboard. He got a call from Davido the same day he wrote his resignation letter. He sent some songs to Davido and that was when the journey began for him.
He has featured in a lot of songs from when he started up until now. Mayorkun is known for his ability to deliver and bring light and vibe to any song he is featured on. Some of these songs are : If No Be You ( Jamopyper, Kole Re Body (Lil Kesh), If You No Love ( Chike), Ginger You (Ajebutter22), Oneme (DJ Ecool), Two (Zoro), Dance ( B-Red), Where You Dey (Tclassic) and many others.
Mayorkun’s manager Sam Phrank, is a one of the pioneer members of The Plug, an entertainment company run by Asa Asika and his partner. Asa Asika is Davido’s manager. It was Davido that made Sam Mayorkun’s manager.
Despite having a famous actress Toyin Adewale as his mother, she was initially skeptical about his venturing into music. She went on to add that she didn’t want him in the entertainment industry because she was scared considering what she herself has been through in the industry. But not that her son is one of the most sought after artiste in Nigeria, she gives him her support while also monitoring him.
