The Nigerian Music Industry is a field with loads of raw talent; some have worked their way to the top, while others are still in the process of making a name for themselves.
At Musicwormcity, we believe the younger generation of musicians have a lot to offer, and amongst many, here are the top 5 emerging female artists to look out for in 2022;
1. MAJESTY LYN
Majesty Lyn would be a perfect answer if asked the meaning of effortless talent. Charleslyn Rosebeth Charles officially launched her music career after winning her first rap battle in River State University in 2016, where she graduated with a BS.C in Mass Communication.
Her first release was a cover of 2face’s 2018 hit track, ‘Amaka,’ featuring Peruzzi. The music cover rapidly went viral on both Twitter and Instagram. Afterward, she released her first official single ‘Johnny Bravo’ in 2019 and her second single, ‘Another Valentine, ‘ the same year.
In April 2020, Majesty Lyn released her debut EP ‘Four Twenty’ under 360 Incubation/RMG and had since then released other projects like ‘Lyn of The South,’ ‘Loud and Clear,’ ‘Perfect For You,’ ‘Find Your Way,’ and ‘Cheese.’ All available on Boomplay, Audiomack, and other streaming platforms.
Majesty Lyn has a fantastic way of conveying her incredible techniques in her sounds. Besides being an embodiment of talent, Lyn is also a beautiful woman with a brand that will sell itself.
2. GUCHI
When you say ‘life of the party,’ that best describes Guchi’s sound. Full name Ugochi Onuoha has a familiar and noble sound, but her touch of highlife will give her sound away anytime.
She started her career as a musician officially in 2016 but earned a spot in the limelight after releasing her hit single ‘Addicted’ in 2019; the track currently has over a million streams on Boomplay.
Thereafter, she released her debut EP, ‘I am Guchi’ in 2020.
Afterward, in 2021, Guchi gained more traction after releasing her Singles, ‘Jennifer’ and ‘Benzema’ in 2021; both tracks each have over 5 million views on Boomplay. She has also featured on Tanzanian sensation, Rayvanny’s Sweet, giving proof of her globally bound leanings.
‘Scatter My Head’ with Zlatan; her first Nigerian collaboration has received great fanfare, proving to her fans that she is on a more impressive trajectory than ever.
3. RAYBEKAH
If you listened to ‘Finger Down,’ one of the most viral and relatable songs during the initial stages of Covid-19, then you have heard of Rebecca Chinonso Arinola, popularly known as Raybekah.
The attraction of “Finger Down” fetched Raybekah with over a million streams on Spotify was the crowd she needed. The Afro-pop singer has released other tracks like ‘Gimme Vibe’ ‘Cut Soap.’
Musicwormcity believes Raybeekah has cleared the weeds and tilled the ground in preparation for this new year.
4. RIA SEAN
Aristokrat Music signing of Ria Sean, full name Gloria Asene Enebi helped her break into the mainstream realm of Nigerian music with the hypnotic money anthem, ‘Money Bag .’ Her signing was simply the next step in the gradual progression Ria had been trying to attain since she began cultivating herself as a teenager.
Ria is intent on producing music that would stir people’s hearts. A survey of the reception of her EP would demonstrate that while Money Bag got the attention, it is the siren sweet ‘Satisfy My Soul’ and her earlier released track ‘Lemonade’ that reveal her true capabilities.
As it stands, Ria is not about to cower to the conventions of vocal conformity. Instead, she will continue to carve her unique path with her mix of Afropop, RnB, and Soul.
5. SGaWD
In 2021, SGaWD teamed forces with an Alte music sweetheart, Somadina, to make a rap record ‘Pop Shit’ that music lovers have recognized as the record of the summer in 2021.
The track which portrays SGaWD shines in full glory, one the industry is not even ready for.
But before ‘Pop Shit,’ SGaWD had been making waves by featuring and being featured on tracks such as Jess Eta’s’ ‘Resistance,’ ‘Feel Right,’ with assistance from Mafeni and DOZ and a host of other well-received collaborations.
Last year, off the wings of the success of ‘Pop Shit,’ the Cross River Native released her debut EP, ‘Savage Bitch Juice’, which currently has over 25 thousand streams on Boomplay.
SGaWD is one rapper to look out for. With the support of her management SET, the industry is in for a smooth ride.
