“Qdot – Alagbe” Album Review

“Qdot – Alagbe” Album Review Pin It

Nigeria indigenous artiste, Qdot, has finally released his anticipated debut album which he titles Alagbe .

The album consists of 16 tracks with a bonus track (making it 17 in total). It has received a lot of positive reviews from fans. Qdot is overwhelmes with the Love as he says.
Qdot is a very unique singer in his style of music. He sings mostly in his native language (Yoruba) with lyrics that would make you think deep. He had this to say on his social media page.

Alagbe, a full body of work had features from prominent people in the Industry to add flavour to it. Qdot features Niniola, Patoranking, Jaywon, Zlatan, 9ice, Tclassic, Pepenazi, Pasuma and Xsmile. Production credits also goes to: 2tupondeebeatz, Xsmile, Soshine, Pherari, Antras, Citiboi amongst others.

The first song on the album which is the Intro titles IBA (meaning praises) has Qdot giving honour to whom it’s due, to God for his life and for the ability to sing. He also thanks God for how far he has brought him because he acknowledges that he didn’t do it on his own. He also acknowledges his mother who never ceased praying for him.

We go right into MORIAMO. This song is a tribute to his grandma who took him in as a child after his parents divorced. It’s a very emotional and touching song as it obvious he really loves her and all she did for him. He promised to tell her story to his children.

Dance is a classic owambe music which would have you twisting and whyning your wait to the tune. It has goofy and funny lyrics to compliment the whole cruise of the song.

Gbese is a song he has released before that was an hit, but for the album he employs the help of Niniola to take the song to another level. The combination of Niniola and Qdot is so beautiful and they bring so much light into gbese. It was like the song was already good and had nowhere else to go, but Niniola and Qdot thought otherwise and showed it.

Ayedun (meaning life is sweet) pose introspective questions about Life while in Magbe in which he features Patoranking. Qdot dishes out Duro which is a love song about endurance till the end. He loses the question that would the lover wait with him when things are no longer rosy and the world is against him. In Duro (which means wait), Qdot demand to know if she would wait with him through it all.

Maria is another love song off the album. In this one, he confessed his feelings to the girl while he promises everything that would come out of being with him. He promises that she is the only one and he would love her in this life and in another. We go into the street vibe that Qdot is known for, in AH! It’s a call and response with a ah being repeated in the background.

Zlatan was able to bring his usual vibe in the song Olopa. It’s a vibey and exciting tune. Qdot brings it all to an end with the energetic jaiye. It made it clear that he didn’t come to this life to suffer and so he would spend his money as much as he earns it. This life isn’t balanced, the singer soliloquizes and concludes that he would enjoy it as much as he can.

Overall, Qdot is able to make a stand in the industry that he is someone unique with his own style of singing. The putting together is the album is really nice and the features are perfect and are able to bring the whole project the way it should be.
