Do you miss hearing songs like African Queen by Tuface at wedding parties? The 2000s was an era of evergreen music from various music artistes. A lot of these musical projects remain forever in our minds and they give a wild nostalgic feeling anytime they come bursting through speakers. Here’s a list of albums from the early 2000s we can’t stop listening to, kindly add yours in the comment section. 

  • “Face Off” (2004) by Sasha P and Naeto C

This collaborative effort between Sasha P and Naeto C showcased their lyrical prowess and showcased the growing diversity within the Afrobeats genre.

  • “Face 2 Face” (2004) by 2Baba (formerly 2Face Idibia)

This album marked 2Baba’s solo debut and featured hits like “African Queen” and “Nfana Ibaga.” It contributed to the genre’s growth by incorporating R&B elements into Afrobeats

  • “Game Over” (2006) by P-Square

P-Square’s “Game Over” album solidified their status as Afrobeats pioneers. The album included hits like “Do Me” and “No One Like You,” showcasing their infectious melodies and danceable beats.

  •  “Curb Your Enthusiasm” (2007) by Naeto C

Naeto C’s debut album brought a fresh perspective to Afrobeats with tracks like “Kini Big Deal” and “Ringtone.” His blend of hip-hop influences with African rhythms garnered attention.

  • “True Story” (2007) by Timaya

Timaya’s album “True Story” introduced his signature “Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa” persona. Tracks like “Dem Mama” addressed social issues, while others celebrated the party spirit 

  • “Grass 2 Grace” (2006) by 2Baba (formerly 2Face Idibia) Following up on his debut, 2Baba’s “Grass 2 Grace” album featured hits like “One Love” and “If Love Is A Crime.” The album further cemented his status as an Afrobeats icon.

Back in the building (2007) by Eldee

Eldee’s album showcased his blend of hip-hop and Afrobeats influences. Tracks like “Big Boy” and “I Go Yarn” explored personal and societal themes with catchy beats.

  • “Gongo Aso” (2008) by 9ice

9ice’s “Gongo Aso” album showcased his Yoruba cultural roots through tracks like the titular “Gongo Aso” and “Street Credibility.” It resonated with listeners and became a classic.

  • “Mushin 2 Mo’Hits” (2008) by Mo’Hits All Stars

This album, led by Don Jazzy and D’Banj, played a pivotal role in shaping the modern Afrobeats sound. It featured hits like “Pere” and “Booty Call,” blending Afrobeat rhythms with contemporary production.
