Top photographer Alexander Ashimole, professionally known as Lex Ash, takes us on his musical journey in the recent release of his musical debut, spilling the “Truth” in this EP Review. The 6-track Extended Playlist (EP) ‘Truth’ is one to be heard.
Lex Ash had explored singing as a chorister at both his secondary school and university level but first recorded music professionally in the year 2019. His earlier releases include Mood, Something Different (Adekunle Gold Cover), among others. Combined with his collaboration with the popular Electronic Dance Music singer, Sigag Lauren, titled, We’ll Dance Again.
His debut EP is a feel of tranquility, from the first song titled, All Night Long, to the closing track, By My Side, featuring Boma, the entire playlist is an emotional travelogue.
The messages on the EP appear very straightforward, from confessing that he misses his ex-lover, in All Night Long, to the Afro Pop-fusion, Right My Wrongs (featuring Zoro), eventually winning her back in the last track, By My Side. The EP is a well-mapped-out plot that portrays his mastery of telling stories both with the lens and with words.
Here is what Lex Ash says about this body of work: “I feel as if I had looked forward to this my whole life. That’s the truth. I remember when my mum would force me to sing at our local church. I remember taking solos in high school and writing my first song and then ministering and performing at the university to thousands of people.
And now I am taking a plunge and releasing the whole body of work. It feels surreal, and the fact that you support me makes me feel overwhelmed.
The truth is out now, it’s taken over a year, but it’s here now. And I am super excited, but I am also super nervous. I don’t think the nerves will go away. Music has such a hold…”
The highlights of the EP is the single ‘Truth’ where Lex Ash stretches his mastery of words. For music lovers, the EP is a therapeutic melody composed with a blend of drowning piano chords, slow kicks, and clear bass lines. The entire record – solely produced by Kordys Sheed.
