In the music industry, it is typical to have upcoming artists that might not be so popular at first but gain their foot in the industry with time. The likes of Olamide, Wizkid, Davido, Tiwa Savage, Simi, Yemi Alade and Burna Boy started out as young talents but with enough training and consistency, they rose to become the superstars they are today.
The Nigerian music industry has unveiled new talents in the last few months and Nigerians expect to see more. Keep reading to find out the artists you should not sleep on in the second half of 2021.

Buju
Daniel Benson is a Nigerian artist signed to Burna Boy’s record Label, Spaceship Records. He is popularly known as Buju and sometimes called Bujutoyourears. Buju is a 23 years old Akwa Ibom indigene that rose to fame at a very young age and is gradually becoming a force to reckon with in the Nigerian music industry. He has worked with Zlatan in the past and recently released a remix of his single ‘Lenu’ with Burna Boy. However, the song that people won’t stop talking about is the single titled ‘Feeling’ featuring Ladipoe, a popular Nigerian rapper with international recognition. His fans expect more from him in the second half of 2021.

Starboy Terri
Akinre Terry popularly known as Terri or Starboy Terri is a Lagos-born and bred artist. Initially popular for performing music covers, Terri was discovered after he performed DJ Jimmy Jatt’s and Wizkid’s ‘Oshey’ on Instagram in January 2018. He was subsequently signed to Wizkid’s record label, Starboy Music, in February 2018 after he received a message from Mut4y, the Head of Music at Starboy, and had a meeting with him. In March 2018, Terri was featured on Wizkid’s song titled, ‘Soco’ and there are claims that he has been cooking up some music for his fans. He is one of the artists that we expect to catch the Nigerian audience’s attention in the second half of 2021.

Lojay is another artist Nigerians should expect great music from in the second half of 2021. Lojay is a stage name coined from the Nigerian artist’s actual name, Lekan Osifeso Jnr. He recently released his debut EP ‘LV N ATTN’ with Sarz, the famous and internationally-renowned Nigerian producer, and featured Grammy award-winning superstar, Wizkid. This collaboration gained him a lot of popularity, so it’s safe to expect more from him in the coming months.

GoodGirl LA
Professionally known as GoodGirl LA, Euphemia Runyi Ekumah is a Nigerian Afro-Fusion singer and songwriter who came into the limelight in 2015 with the release of her single ‘Faraway’. She owns her own record label named GoodGirl LA Entertainment. GoodGirl LA has participated in several Nigerian music competitions in the past such as Glo Naija Sings and Nigerian Idol.

The 20-year-old singer and songwriter, Opeyemi Babatunde Rahim, better known as ‘LYTA’ gained prominence in the Nigerian music industry after he featured Olamide on his single ‘Time’. He also featured Davido and Fireboy DML on the remix of his hit single ‘Monalisa’. He was signed to Olamide’s label YBNL but left in 2019 and is currently signed to Naira Marley’s Marlian Records.
