Grammy-award winning Afrobeats superstar, Ayodeji Balogun who is popularly known as Wizkid, breaks a record as his album ‘Made in Lagos’ hits one billion streams across all streaming platforms. This happened on Sunday, the 10th of October 2021.
Wizkid’s Made in Lagos has become the highest charting African album on the Billboard 200 with 322 million streams on Apple Music,229 million streams on Spotify, 227 million streams on YouTube, over 140 million streams on Audiomack. All these achievements in barely a year after the album was released worldwide.
Wizkid dropped Made in Lagos last year to mixed reactions. Many people did not know where to place the album, but as time went by, the project proved to be well worth its weight in gold.
The song titled Essence featuring Tems, especially took the perception of the album to another level. Essence has become practically the song of the summer worldwide as it has soared higher and higher on many charts.
Recently, it was also announced that ‘Essence’ alone has over 80 million streams on Apple Music.
