Ayra Starr Releases Her Debut Album, 19 & Dangerous

Ayra Starr Releases Her Debut Album, 19 & Dangerous Pin It

The long-anticipated debut album, 19 & Dangerous by the 19-year-old Mavin Records pop star, Ayra Starr is finally out. The album includes 11 songs featuring renowned artists Ckay and Foushee and was produced by Don Jazzy alongside London, Louddaaa and Kel-P Vibes. The tracks on this soul lifting debut album by Ayra Starr were written by both the singer and her brother Dami Aderibigbe with Johnny Drille in charge of the mixing and mastering.

Dedicating a track in the album to Gen Z, 19 & Dangerous explores relationships, betrayal and self-assurance, and gives a vivid description of what the growth into adulthood feels like. The album is available for streaming on all music streaming platforms.

The first track on the 19 & Dangerous album is “Cast (Gen Z Anthem)”, a song that describes the “cast” culture and how she’s going to live her life the way she wants without shame or the fear of casting. In the song she implores her listeners to do whatever they want and not care about what people say.  Ayra started the song with an Eartha Kitt interview where she said ‘Life is not problematic. We make it problematic”.

The next track on the album is “Fashion Killer” co-written by Ayra and her brother, Dami Aderibigbe. In the song, Ayra describes her love for fashion and calls herself a “Fashion Killer” with so much to deliver.

The tracks “Lonely” and “Toxic” are love-lost and heartbreak songs respectively. In the two songs Ayra talks about a lover that she lost and how she’s human and capable of feeling hurt and lonely. The songs recount her experiences with people that have left her and how she felt about it. Like these two songs, the song “Beggie Beggie” featuring Ckay also sees Ayra talking about a guy that she has begging for attention but has been using her to catch cruise.

“Snitch” is another good song on the album that details the life of a Gen Z. She featured American singer, Fousheé in this sensational track and they both did a wonder to it.

According to Ayra, the track “In Between” was written in her sleep. We don’t know what the singer saw in her dream but this track is an embodiment of different emotions and a unique sound. The song highlights Ayra’s frustration and she had to express it in French when she said, “Je Suis Fatigue”, which means “I am tired”.

Like “Fashion Killer”, Ayra and her brother wrote the song “Karma” together but this was long before she got signed to Mavin Records. However, she started recording the song immediately after she got signed. Ayra portrays an interesting picture of Karma being a good lover and helping her get revenge from the guy she loved but didn’t reciprocate the love. The song doesn’t only have great lyrics but is supported by an awesome beat.

Ayra retells the story of the popular biblical story, “The Good Samaritan” but tags it “Bloody Samaritan”, an opposite of the good Samaritan. The bloody Samaritans, according to her, are those people that pretend to be good Samaritans but are complete hypocrites.

The track titled, “Bridgertn” was obviously inspired by the popular British series “Bridgerton”. Ayra gives us a clear picture of what it would be like if she broke stereotypes as a young black lady and were Queen.

The last song on the breathtaking album 19 & Dangerous is “Amin”. In the song, it seems like Ayra is reminiscing and giving herself a pep talk on how to handle fame. This song has a melodious feel to the ears and it is what we feel should have come first in the album.
