Basketmouth – “Yabasi” Album Review Pin It

Nigerian comedian “Basketmouth” has surprised fan with the release of a full album which he titles “Yabasi”. Yabasi means onions in Igbo language.

Basket mouth, who started his career as a rapper in the University of Benin before he switched to comedy has delighted fans with this new creativity. He said in a recent Interview with pulse tv how it was rapping and getting booed at that led him to take the comedy path.

He features Duncan Mighty, Ice Prince, Oxlade, Show Dem Camp, Waje, Ladipoe, Flash, BOJ, Chike, Zoro, Play, Umu Obiligbo, Ceeza Milli, Flavour, Phyno, The Cavemen, Bez, Dice Ailes, Peruzzi and Ill Bliss in this absolutely brilliant debut album.

Yabasi is the soundtrack for Basketmouth’s tv series coming soon titled Papa Benji and the whole album is written around scenes and acts in the series. Basket mouth did not exactly sing in this album, but he showed his A&R powress.

One person single handedly produced the whole track on Yabasi “Duktor Sett”. Prior to the release of the album, he was not exactly known but he proved himself well. It is also interesting to know that this producer is the one that produces all ex big brother naija housemate “Efe” tracks.

The album contains 10 solid tracks with “Papa Benji” being the lead single. It is the 8th song off the album. The album has received several reactions from fans on social media platforms. It has often been said that basket mouth posseses a music head, and this is the confirmation.

The first song off the album is pepper soup and it features Duncan Mighty and Ice prince. It is one of the favorite amongst fans and basket mouth did well putting it as the first song on the album. We straight into Myself with Oxlade performing his usual magic and show them camp. It’s straight forward and talk about how the singer would not do more than he can do and not put extra stress on himself.

Nobody thought of it before but a waje and ladipoe collaboration in a song is something we should have been waiting for. In Ride or Die, they take the album to the next level. Chike, Zoro and Play sings about life in the fifth song off the album.

The theme song for the tv series Papa Benji has Phyno and Flavour on it. It’s an Highlife music that is sure to become a hit. It talks about the characters in the coming series. We go straight into hustle which has the Cavemen, Bez and Dice Alice as they sing about how hustling is not easy but it always says off. The last song on the album is Udo. Basketmouth features Peruzzi and Ill Bliss.

Just when the year is coming to an end and we felt we have had all heat albums that can come out of this year, we have Basketmouth surprise us with this. It is a great album all round and It shows that hardwork and time were put into it.
