Timaya’s Gratitude Album Review Pin It

Dance-hall artiste Timaya has officially released his seventh studio album today, the 18th of November, 2020 which he titles Gratitude.

In Gratitude, Timaya talks about his life and everything he has been through in his 15year career. He said on his social media that Gratitude is All Of Him. It is interesting to note that there is no features in this album as the singer takes center stage as he gives a unique presentation of his life and the goodness he has enjoyed so far.

Gratitude is a 15 track album with production credits to Yung Willis, Orbeat, Ayzed, Spotless, Wireless Mouth, Chillz, Vibe O, BoomBeatz, Krizbeatz and Chris Strings. All the songs were written by Timaya himself and art design by propa art studio. TheThe pioneer songs on this album are Born to Win, The mood, I can’t kill myself and the recently released Gra Gra.

Born to win is a self declaration on his need and how necessary it is for him to win because he doesn’t have any other person to help him. He says he doesn’t tire, even tho he has been in the game for so long. Born to win gives off a very cool vibe and the lyrics are topnotch. He dives straight into iberibe in a higher tempo. Iberibe is appreciation for the special person in his life. We see it in the lyrics he used.
“For your body I dey see the hand of God, baby girl you too mature, every other girl is an amateur”
He goes ahead to assure that his money must show on her body.

Don Dada talks about betrayal and backstabbing: how the people you helped and show love to are those that would turn their back on you when you need their help. But he goes further to claim that all this does not Faze/affect him as he is the DON DADA. Don Dada actually means the highest ranking boss in any activity; the most respected.

In Something must to kill a man, he advices that man has flaws and addiction but this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to save or invest and plan for the future. He also states that enjoyment too can kill and you shouldn’t “fall your hand”. No Limit is an energetic vibe that Papichulo uses to inform us that he has no limit. The is to tell us that even with 15years in the business, he is not done yet as he has more heights to cover.

We go straight into The Mood in which he explains that the only mood he is in is bank alert mood. He gives a few insight to how he stated as a small boy from Port Harcourt before he moved to Lagos to hustle for a better life. Chulo Bother Nobody talks about self dependency and self hustle. It talks about looking out for yourself and not having to depend on anybody. He talk about how he doesn’t bother anybody but faces his business and what he has and has achieved is enough for him. Okaka is all about giving thanks to God for all he has achieved through His help.

Gra Gra was released before the full album was released. Gra gra was a teaser to all to expect from the album and it didn’t disappoint. It shows how Timaya is a chilled person and doesn’t try to show off. It also stokes that wants to enjoy the good life without trying to work for it. Even from the name Local And Bougie, we can get an idea what the song is about. It is the 10th song on the album, it shows the goofy side of the singer.

L.O.V.E is another love song on the album. It’s a declaration of love for the special person in his life. He claims nobody can take her place in his life and he wouldn’t ever place any other person above her. The 13th song on the album The Light talks about the sad situation his country, Nigeria, is currently in. He makes mention of other great black leaders that made impact and urge Nigeria leaders to take their cue from them.

I Can’t Kill Myself is another song that was released before the full album was released. It was a big hit when it was first released. Award winning rapper, Cardi B even sang the song while eating on her instagram live. In the song, Timaya states that he can’t do more than he can do. He would do his best, flex and leave the rest for God. This still stands as the nation’s lazy anthem.

The last song on the Gratitude album is BURU. Bura is a pure song of Thanksgiving to God for how far he has come. He claims it’s not by his power but because of his God and that’s why he is always grateful.

Timaya’s Gratitude is really a full account of his life so far. He shows how he has faced people trying to put him down, hoping he won’t make it, but still he is still standing. Then he talks about the various temptations that comes when you’ve made it and how he was able to overcome those to. He claims it’s not by his power but all with the help of God.

The construction of the album is really on point and the arrangement of songs is quite commendable. Timaya tells a story in the album and we can be rest assured that this isn’t the end as he has claimed he is limitless and still has heights to attain. No matter your tribe, colour or origin, Timaya has showed that his songs are something you can relate and flow with.
