“Yemi Alade – Empress” Album Review

The anticipation is over as Yemi Alade, the Afro Pop superstar, release her 5th studio album Empress.

The singer, who has been active in the music scene since 2005 is known for releasing Afro Pop hits which has won her several awards.

On this new album, we have 15 solid tracks. The energetic shows her versatility yet again as the tracks are crafted with rich elements of Afro Pop, highlife, Soul, Coupe decade, Amapiano, dancehall and even Gospel.

The artiste also has powerful collaborations from artiste like Dadju, Vegedream, Rudeboy, Estelle, Patoranking and the Mzansi Youth. It was released under Effyzzie Music Limited.

However, talking about the album, the singer said “ “If there is one thing that we have learnt this year, it’s the power of Love & inner strength. Love for God, self, service & for one another coupled with the strength to fight injustice and to carry on regardless of the circumstances. Love and inner strength kept the world moving through the dark clouds of 2020. With that in mind , I was blessed to create my fifth album titled “Empress“

True Love is basically a happy song. It has no head or tail, it was recorded for the sole purpose of making people happy and dance. It gives off a joyous and happy vibe. Yoyoyo has the classic story telling style Yemi Alade is known for. The story talk about a playboy that goes around playing girls and breaking hearts. It also talks about girls and doesn’t stay in school but would rather go around with men older than her father.

Mami-water is a reflective song about an area of life. We dive straight into the love song Lose My Mind in which she features Vegedream. Like the name implies, its about how the love feeling makes a person do things the person would not normally do.

Boyz which has already been released ahead of the album is a confession to the fact that the singer actually like boyz, expecially fine and rich boyz, it doesn’t matter the nationality. The most recent release from the artiste I choose you has been making waves as it has harnessed over 10 million streams on Youtube alone. She features french superstar Dadju in this beautiful love song with catchy lyrics and sweet lyrics.

She got Patoranking in to create magic in Temptation. This two big dance-hall artiste on a song, you should know it would be big. Ice and Deceive are cool R&B vibe. She features Rudeboy(Paul Okoye) on decieve.

Rain for me is an unusual song on the album because we see Yemi Alade go gospel on this track. She features the Mzansi Youth Choir and the song is so beautiful and nice. Listening to it reminds you that Yemi Alade was the one that won the Peak Talent Show in 2009. She has such a powerful voice.

On Weekend, she features grammy-winning British singer Estelle to add flavour to the song and that was exactly what Estelle did. The last song on the album, Double Double, is about how everything she has been doing has been yeilding profit and Increasing her. It’s like an attestment to how well she is doing now.

Yemi Alade, the Mama Africa, has continued to prove time and time again why she is still a prominent name in the industry. She is unique, versatile and very energetic. Empress shows all that much about her and even more.
