Nigerian rapper turn singer, Aboriomoh Femi Raymond professionally Known as Dre’mo is a DMW signee. Dremo was officially introduced and signed on Tuesday 5th of April 2016 as a rapper under singer Davido’s record label, Davido Music Worldwide popularly known as DMW. About the same period as DMW currently star signee Mayorkun was signed. DMW was operating under HKN Music at the time. It was great news for fans of DMW record label because they were excited about what the new additions will mean to the DMW force in the music industry.
Let’s do a quick retro of Dremo. Dremo met Davido through a friend who invited him out, later that night they ended up at Davido’s home studio, Dremo started freestyling based on inspiration from the Fela image that hung up Davido studio wall. Davido picked interest on Dremo’s talent and decided to sign him.
Our mega question where is this Talented Dremo that freestyled on the spot? We are struggling to identify Dremo in the industry and we are concerned because we believe he has so much to offer.
While we understand that the Nigerian rap industry needs one to be extra hard-working, we believe Dremo gave up too early on rap and sold himself short to become a singer. We believe this switch happened when he sang “kpa” with Davido, why? We do not know. Maybe it was a management decision.
Switching unofficially to a singer after coming out as a rapper will cause identity misplacement. Consistency is an essential aspect of business, especially in the music industry. As a rapper, Dremo had no business switching, he might have had a harder time “blowing”, but he has the backing of one of the hottest record labels in Nigeria, DMW. All Dremo needs is to put in the extra work as a rapper in the Afrobeat music industry. DMW needs a rapper!!
The truth is a lot of people had not vividly identified Dremo as a rapper when he switched to a singer, now it is harder to place Dremo.
Dremo, to achieve what you deserve, reveal your true self. Nothing good comes easy.
